The Control of Legionella Bacteria in Water Systems – L8, is covered in the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulation 2004, which applies to any work activity, to any building where water is used or stored, and to any situation where water droplets may be inhaled.
This requires all non-domestic properties with work activities, to any building where water is used stored, and to any situation where water droplets may be inhaled to have an up-to-date Legionella Risk Assessment, change of occupancy shouldn’t take place without one.
Trading standards are actively seeking non-domestic properties that do not comply with ‘The Control of Legionella Bacteria in Water Systems – L8, which can result in large fines in the event of non-compliance.
Commonly Legionella Bacteria can be found in large domestic water systems, in hotels, factories or hospitals, in air-conditioning and industrial cooling systems.
